I CAN TELL THE FUTURE!!!!

It’s funny how so many things never really change in life, even after so long a time. There are just those little things that still draw out the same reactions from us no matter how often they happen. Like a compliment from someone important, makes us smile regardless of how many people told us the exact same things before, or a call from someone really annoying who just wouldn’t get the message, we most likely hiss before we know it, or a credit alert from our bank, makes our eyes brighter even if for just that second, and a lot of other things that we do every time certain things happen.

It’s even funnier how we do not realize that we do all those things all those times. Many of us like to think and say we are dynamic and not easily predictable. Some of us even claim to be as new as the mercies of God which are actually new every morning. Regardless, it’s those little things that can be predicted that assure those close to us of the continuity of the bond we share. A girlfriend would most likely assume there’s something wrong if her boyfriend’s eyes do not light up at the sight of her. Ask her how she knows she loves him, she’ll probably tell you how many years they have been together and how she knows the first word he says in the mornings and can tell when he is hungry even before he says it.  In short, she has become close to him enough to predict him. Yet, he’ll bet he is not predictable.

So it got me thinking, what exactly is predictable and what exactly is not. Who decides what is and what is not? Why do we even do the things we do, who commands our actions, reactions and in-actions? Many of us would be quick to say we run our lives by ourselves. If you are religious, you’ll say it’s the unseen hand of God, if you are traditional, you’ll probably declare that there is a script already written and we just follow. What will be will be, we are just like pencils in the hands of the creator. You might even be an intellectual who is of the opinion that we should properly plan and process our lives, that our lives are in our hands and we are the author of our own fate.

So whatever your school of thought, let me question your line of thinking a bit. What if, just what if you were wrong, completely wrong about everything you believe, everything you know, everything you have been taught, everything you ever said. What if black was white, wrong was right and yesterday was actually tomorrow.  What if the birds are not actually singing, but screaming their lungs out because they are scared of heights. Just what if?

Whichever way it is, let me tell you a few things that I know to be sure: I am alive, I will die someday, before I die, I can choose to make the best of whatever situations I find myself in, I can choose to be happy, you can do likewise, and Jesus is coming back, one day!
